Daniel P. Murphy, CFP®

Founding Partner,
Chief Investment Officer

Dan graduated from the University of Michigan and entered the financial services industry in 1982. Fueled by a desire to deepen his financial expertise, he earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification from the CFP Board. Before founding Great Lakes Private Wealth in 2023, Dan distinguished himself as a Premier Advisor at Wells Fargo Advisors from 2011 to 2021, a recognition based on exceptional educational and business performance.

Throughout his career, Dan has successfully managed discretionary portfolios, starting in 1991, and has navigated his clients through significant market fluctuations, including the 2008 financial crisis during which his portfolios outperformed benchmarks*. He served as Managing Director of Investments at Wells Fargo Advisors’ Private Client Group until April 2023. Committed to optimal risk management and client-focused strategies, Dan recently expanded Great Lakes Private Wealth with a second office in Sarasota, Florida, catering to a growing client base. His mission is to help individuals and families achieve their financial goals, from securing retirement income to funding education, all while navigating the emotional aspects of investing.

Originally hailing from Livonia, Michigan, Dan now splits his time between Michigan and Florida with his wife, Clare, and their five children. They are dedicated supporters of the Boys and Girls Club, the Yatooma Foundation For The Kids, and sponsoring teenagers to attend Tony Robbins Global Youth Leadership seminars. Passionate about travel, Dan and Clare have visited Vietnam, Rwanda, and the Alaskan Outback. Both enjoy golfing, but their greatest joy comes from simply spending quality time together and giving back to their community.
